Some Basic Instructions
- Hold the flute with the longer side to the right (the embouchure-hole is not exactly in the middle).
- Now, blow the flute with both endings open. Play the lowest note, which is the first of the five basic notes.
- Close the right side and play a higher pitch. This is the second one of the five basic notes.
- In the Thumpy Player you find all the five basic notes. The special Thumpy-notehead has a left and a right part, which indicates the position of the left and right endings of (blank = open; black = closed). Take care: 'left/right' here means 'left/right for the player'!
- Find out other pitches by trying other thumb-combinations.
- Make other pitch-variations by partly closing and opening the ending holes.
- Bend the pitch down and up by turning the flute inwards respectively outwards (pitch-bending, portamento).
- Create special accents by opening/closing the thumb-holes most rapidly.
